The City of Greenbrier has officially assumed management of the Greenbrier Senior Citizens Center, marking a new chapter for an important community resource that has served local senior adults for many years.
The center was previously affiliated with The Faulkner County Council on Aging (FCCA) that helped oversee its operations and programming. Following the recent loss of funding connected to that organization, the future of the Greenbrier facility was in question regarding certain programs and cutbacks.

Recognizing the important role the center plays in the lives of area seniors, city leaders began working to identify a path forward. The City of Greenbrier has now formally taken responsibility for the management, oversight and future planning of the center. “The Senior Citizens Center is a vital part of our community. It is a place where citizens of Greenbrier come to gather, build friendships and remain connected,” said Mayor Sammy Hartwick. He added, “We did not want the loss of outside funding to mean the loss of this valuable resource for Greenbrier’s seniors. The city is proud to step in and help protect its future.”
Under city management, officials will evaluate the center’s current operations, available resources and future needs. The city will also explore opportunities to strengthen programming and develop a sustainable plan that allows the center to continue serving the community.

The transition will require cooperation among city officials, center participants, volunteers and community partners. While management of the facility is changing, the city’s goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible for the seniors who depend on the center for fellowship, activities and community connection. “Our senior adults have spent their lives contributing to Greenbrier,” said Crystal Hutchinson, Director of the Senior Center. “This is an opportunity for us to show them that they remain an important and valued part of our community.”

Additional information regarding the center’s schedule, programs, meals, volunteer opportunities and other operational details will be shared as plans are finalized.
The City of Greenbrier looks forward to working alongside local seniors and community members to preserve the center while building a strong foundation for its future.
